When planning your strength day workout at the gym, it is easy to get overwhelmed due to the numerous machines and free weights you have to pick from. I came across an interesting video of the 11 worst exercises. Please see the link below. BUT, know that I don’t completely agree with what she has listed as exercises to avoid.
1. Crunches are great! I think her point is that they can be ineffective if crunches are the only exercise you do to strengthen your core. ie doing 200 crunches only isn’t going to reduce your waistline. Diet is more important.
2. Dips are like push-ups. They work many muscles in your upper body at the same time, so dips should be part of your workout. However, be careful with them. Make sure you are doing them properly to avoid excess shoulder stress. An assisted machine is great to use for dips.
3. Nothing wrong with the elliptical machine. I kind of compare it to water jogging. It is great to use for a cardio no-impact day. If you are tapering for a running race or recovering from a running race. Great time to use the elliptical machine.
The rest of what she says is pretty accurate…
