Does it not seem like every week another pop-up advertisement is pushing a new “superfood” or diet trick?

How can we decipher which foods we should eat regularly when there are so many diet/nutrition plans out there? Browsing through the bookstore I have found numerous books on paleo plans as well as plans that eliminate or cut down sugar intake. Studying these books as well as researching additional nutritionists guidelines, I have narrowed down to what seems to be the most popular trending three foods in each category for health and weight management.

Everything below needs to be non-GMO & organic:

Kale
Vegetables:
This is hard because there are so many great vegetables that you should consume to your heart’s content with no limit (see my link on top 10 vegetables). Try to eat one of these three for at least 1 serving daily:
Sea Vegetables
Kale
Broccoli

Fruits:
Lemon/limes
Avocados
Blueberries

Dairy or Dairy substitutes:
Yogurt or a non-dairy source of probiotics
Raw goat’s milk
Nut milks (almond, cashew, etc.)

Protein:
Eggs
Wild caught fish
Organ meats (reminder – free range, grass-fed only)

Vegetarian Protein:
Quinoa
Hemp seeds or powder
Tempeh or Tofu (non-processed, of course – this is different than soybean oils and processed soy in GMO-laden fast-foods)

hemp seeds

Grains or grain-substitutes:
Whole Oats
Quinoa
Brown Rice

Nuts/Legumes:
Almonds or Walnuts (tie)
Chick Peas
Lentils

Baking (added one extra item for flavoring in this category)
Nut flours

So, how many of these foods do you eat each week? If you counted five or less, try to add a couple of these each week and see how you begin to feel.
